Richard was born in 1750 in Warrington and his baptism took place on March 1st, 1750 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  Richard's father was Josiah Mather and his mother was Ann. He had a brother and a sister, named Benjamin and Betty.  He was the second oldest of the three known children.
