Rachel was born on July 14th, 1816 in Bury and her baptism took place there on August 30th, 1816.1  Rachel's father was William Mather and her mother was Mary Rushton. She had a brother and a sister, named Henry and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had a half-sister named Marianne.
