Marianne was born in August 1822 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on August 14th, 1822 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Marianne's father was William Mather and her mother was Jane Wilkinson. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Henry, Elizabeth and Rachel.
