Pheobe was born in 1837 in Tyldesley and her baptism took place there on March 26th, 1837.^1 2

Pheobe's father was John Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Wild.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Elizabeth Hatton. She had two sisters named Mary and Sarah.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had a half-brother named Eli.  She died at the age of 15 in 1852 in Atherton.³
