Peter's father was John Mather and his mother was Ann. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Thomas, Mordicai, Margarett and Margaret. He was the youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 1 in 1685 in Turton. His burial was on December 26th, 1685 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
