Matty's father was Henry Mather and her mother was Ann Wainright. She had four sisters named Betty, Susan, Matty and Catherine.  She was the third oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 1 in July 1772.  She was buried on July 22nd, 1772 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).²
