Matty was born in September 1772 in WestLeigh and her baptism took place on September 12th, 1772 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Matty's father was Henry Mather and her mother was Ann Wainright. She had four sisters named Betty, Susan, Matty and Catherine.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
