Lily's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Jane Caldwell.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Mary Cunliffe. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Paul, Harold, Sarah and Florence.  She was the third youngest of the six known children.  She died at the age of 77 in December 1961 in Bolton.  She was buried on December 11th, 1861 in Bolton.³
