Lily's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Jane Caldwell. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Mary Cunliffe. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Paul, Harold, Sarah and Florence. She was the fourth oldest of the six known children. She died at the age of 77 in December 1961 in Bolton. Her burial was on December 11th, 1861 in Bolton.³
