Florence was born in 1888 in Halliwell.1  Florence's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Jane Caldwell.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Mary Cunliffe. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Paul, Harold, Sarah and Lily.  She was the youngest of the six known children.
