James' father was Peter Mather and his mother was Margaret Moors. He had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Peter, Samuel and Ann.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died at 10 months old in January 1827 in Warrington.  He was buried on January 7th, 1827 at St. Elphin (Warrington).²
