James was born in 1826 in Warrington and his baptism took place there on March 26th, 1826.1  James' father was Peter Mather and his mother was Margaret Moors. He had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Peter, Samuel and Ann.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1827.
