James was born on September 13th, 1904 in Pendleton and his baptism took place on October 12th, 1904 at St. Ambrose (Pendleton).1  James' father was James Mather and his mother was Mary Ann Johnson. He had a brother and a sister, named Edmund and Louisa.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died before 1911.
