Henry was born in December 1863 in Bolton.1  Henry's father was James Mather and his mother was Elizabeth (Betsy) Broom.  His paternal grandparents were William Mather and Martha Bleakley.  John Mather and Jane Welsby were his grandparents through his father's adoption. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Charles, Martha, Nancy and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died as an infant in December 1863 in Bolton.1
