Beatrice was born in July 1798 in Chowbent and her baptism took place on August 11th, 1798 at Newbent Chapel (Presbyterian).1  Beatrice's father was John Mather and her mother was Martha (Matty) Higginson.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Mary Mather. She had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas, James, Henry and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
