Alice was born in 1804 in WestLeigh and her baptism took place on May 26th, 1804 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Alice's father was James Mather and her mother was Ann Oliver.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Mather and Betty Keele. She had a brother and two sisters, named William, Ellen and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the four known children.
