Frances was born in 1862 in Barton.¹

Frances' father was Thomas Manning and her mother was Sarah Warburton. Her paternal grandparents were John Manning and Betty (Elizabeth) Edwards. She had three brothers and a sister, named John, Thomas, Ellis and Jane. She was the third oldest of the five known children.
