Mary was born in 1805 in Breightmet and his baptism took place on June 2nd, 1805 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Mary's father was Joshua Lomax and his mother was Anne (Nancy) Wood.  His paternal grandparents were John Lomax and Sarah Settle. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Susannah, Robert, Ellen and Nancy.  He was the youngest of the five children.
