Joseph's father was Joseph Lomax and his mother was Betty Haslam. He had three brothers and five sisters, named John, Abraham, Jacob, Molly, Hannah, Hannah, Betty and Amelia. He had an adopted sister named Happy. He died at the age of 7 in May 1799 in Bolton. His burial was on May 23rd, 1799 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
