William was born in 1824 in Goosnargh and his baptism took place on July 4th, 1824 in Whitechapel (Preston).1  William's father was William Kay and his mother was Ellen Varley. He had two brothers and three sisters, named James, Edward, Dorothy, Ellen and Isabella.
