Jonathan's father was Henry Isherwood and his mother was Jane Holt. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Ralph, James, John, James, Mary, Hannah and Peggy. He was the seventh oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 70 on December 14th, 1879 in Edgworth. His burial was on December 18th, 1879 at St. Anne (Turton).³⁴
