John was born on March 7th, 1896 in Bolton.1  John's father was Gilbert Smith Haydock and his mother was Edith Aspinall.  His maternal grandparents were John Aspinall and Mary Welsby. He had a brother and a sister, named Gilbert and Edith.  He was the oldest of the three known children.  He died at the age of 54 in January 1951 in Fanworth.
