Frank was born in December 1867 in Bolton.1  Frank's father was Thomas William Handford and his mother was Eliza Octavia Thornton.  His paternal grandparents were William Handford and Esther Finn; his maternal grandparents were William Thornton and Mary Dunn.  He was an only child.
