Mary was born in December 1837 in Bolton and her baptism took place on November 19th, 1837 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Mary's father was Andrew Hamer and her mother was Sarah Jane Stott.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Hamer and Mary Briggs; her maternal grandparents were Edward Stott and Mary Entwistle. She had two brothers and a sister, named Ted, Michael and Alice.  She was the oldest of the four children.  She died before 1841 in Bolton.
