Eli was born in 1847 in Bolton.1  Eli's father was Jonathan Hamer and his mother was Sarah Gore Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Alice Gore. He had a sister named Mary.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 1 in September 1848 in Bolton.  He was buried on September 17th, 1848 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2 1
