Mary was born in September 1849 in Bollington.1  Mary's father was Joseph Hallowell and her mother was Alice Edowes. She had three brothers and a sister, named Joseph, William, Elizah and Harriet.  She was the third oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 37 in March 1887 in Stockport.2
