Nathan's father was Nathan Griffiths and his mother was Margaret Richards.  His maternal grandparents were John Richards and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, John and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 6 in 1841.
