John was born in 1824 in Wrexham and his baptism took place there on February 22nd, 1824.1  John's father was Nathan Griffiths and his mother was Margaret Richards.  His maternal grandparents were John Richards and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Nathan and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 83 in 1907.
