His paternal grandparents were Alexander Graham and Jeanie Alexander Sharp; his maternal grandparents were Duncan McFarlane and Christina (Katherine) I Jardine. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Alex, Duncan, Kate and Jeanie. He had an adopted brother named John. He died at the age of 74 on June 2nd, 1976 in Bromley.²
