Richard was born in 1890 in Scotland.¹ Richard's father was Isaac Marsland Fidler and his mother was Margaret Logan. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Fidler and Ann Hill. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Isaac, Joseph, William, John, Albert, Agnes and Lily. He was the fourth oldest of the eight known children.
