Thomas was born in June 1861 in Prescot and his baptism took place on June 2nd, 1861 in Farnworth conducted by minister William Jeff.1 2  Thomas' father was Thomas Eddowes and his mother was Ellen Smith.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Martha Jones. He had a sister named Alice.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-sister named Harriett.
