Martha was born in June 1844 in Parkgate and her baptism took place on June 16th, 1844 in Neston.1 2  Martha's father was William Eddowes and her mother was Mary Caldecott.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Martha Jones. She had two brothers named Thomas and Henry.  She was the oldest of the three children.
