William was born in September 1854 in Bolton. William's father was William Dyson and his mother was Maria Barnes.  His maternal grandparents were James Barnes and Mary Bolton. He had a brother and five sisters, named James, Sarah, Mary, Mary, Louisa and Ellen.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 1 in September 1855 in Bolton.1
