Mary's father was William Dyson and her mother was Maria Barnes.  Her maternal grandparents were James Barnes and Mary Bolton. She had two brothers and four sisters, named William, James, Sarah, Mary, Louisa and Ellen.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 1 in 1865 in Bolton.¹
