Mary's father was Wilhelm (William) Heinrich Dittmer and her mother was Margaret (Maggie) Ann Houghton. Her paternal grandparents were Johann (Chris) Heinrich Christoph Dittmer and Katharina (Margaret) Margretha Magdalena Heuer. She had a brother named James. She was the younger of the two children. She died in December 1902 in Liverpool.¹
