Ann's father was Samuel Dawson and her mother was Mary Rhodes. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Samuel, Edward, James, Elizabeth, Mary, Margaret, Ellen, Sarah and Eliza.  She was the fifth youngest of the ten children.
