William was born in March 1859 in Saltney.1  William's father was Samuel Davies and his mother was Jane Evans.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Davies and Jane Jones. He had two brothers and a sister, named Edward, John and Margaret.  He was the youngest of the four children.
