Benjamin was born on August 17th, 1803 in Almondbury and his baptism took place on November 2nd, 1803 in Huddersfield.1  Benjamin's father was Mr James Crosland and his mother was Martha Bradley.  His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Crosland and Betty Liversidge. He had three brothers and a sister, named Joseph, David, Jonathan and Sally.  He was the second youngest of the five children.
