Charles was born in 1821 in Edgworth.1  Charles' father was William Cooper and his mother was Anne Rostron. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Joseph, Jonathan, David, Elizabeth, Priscilla and Jane.  He was the youngest of the nine children.
