Edmund's father was Benjamin Buckley and his mother was Ann Buckley.  His paternal grandparents were Edmund Buckley and Mary Ann Richardson; his maternal grandparents were Philip Buckley and Joanna (Nanny) Brierley. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Philip, William, Esther, Hannah and Mary.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
