Ralph was born in 1701 in Acton by Nantwich and his baptism took place there on April 22nd, 1701.¹

Ralph's father was Ranalphus (Randle or Ralph) Brereton and his mother was Amy Bettiley. His paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Elizabeth Kendricke. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Randle, Amy and Anna. He was the second oldest of the six children.
