Alethea was born in December 1749 in Acton by Nantwich.  Alethea's father was Rev Joseph Brereton and her mother was Alethea Kilderbee. She had a brother and a sister, named Joseph and Alethea.  She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Thomas, Kitty, Nancy, Lucy and Polly.  She died at the age of 78 in 1827 in Staffordshire.1
