Abel was born in 1783 in Bridgemere and his baptism took place on March 9th, 1783 in Wybunbury.1  Abel's father was George Brereton and his mother was Sarah Archdale.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton Snr and Mary Whittingham. He had two brothers named George and Samuel.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 64 in June 1847 in Staffordshire.2

‌Abel and Mary were living together and then officially separated.  They had a daughter named Sarah.
