Margaret was born in September 1864 in Bolton.¹

Margaret's father was James Booth and her mother was Rachel Walmsley. Her paternal grandparents were Adam Booth and Alice Brooks. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Charles, Joseph, James, Betsy and Mary. She was the third oldest of the six known children.
