Joseph's father was James Booth and his mother was Rachel Walmsley. His paternal grandparents were Adam Booth and Alice Brooks. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Charles, James, Betsy, Margaret and Mary. He was the fourth oldest of the six known children. He died at the age of 53 on January 13th, 1920.
