John's father was Edward Blakely and his mother was Eunice Ashton. He had a brother and a sister, named Smalshaw  and Rosamond.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Thomas, Samuel and Rosy.  He died at the age of 77 in April 1837 in Little Heaton.  He was buried on April 16th, 1837 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich).^1 2
