Tom's father was James Blackburn and his mother was Hannah Booth. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Blackburn and Rebecca Kay. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Fred, John, Emma, Annice and Harriet. He was the fifth oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 57 on November 10th, 1917 in Almondbury. His burial was on November 12th, 1917 in Almondbury.²
