Mary was born in 1817 in Harwood and her baptism took place on October 12th, 1817 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Mary's father was Benjamin Beswick and her mother was Alice Rothwell. She had a brother and a sister, named Benjamin and Ann.  She was the oldest of the three known children.
