Selina was born in December 1847 in Atherton and her baptism took place on September 24th, 1848 at St. John the Baptist (Atherton).1 2  Selina's father was John Mather and her mother was Margaret Baxter.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Jameson. She had a brother named Allen.  She was the older of the two known children.
