Maria was born in September 1816 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Maria's father was Samuel Astley and her mother was Nanny Mather.  Her paternal grandparents were James Astley and Mary Bury; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ellen Chambers. She had a sister named Mary.  She was the younger of the two children.  She died at the age of 1 in February 1818.  She was buried on February 4th, 1818 in Bolton.1
