Jacques was born on October 8th, 1688 in Petite-Rivière-St-Francois, Qc, Canada and his christening took place on October 9th, 1688 in Baie-St-Paul, Qc, Canada.  Jacques' father was Ignace Gagné-Gasnier and his mother was Barbe Dodier.  His paternal grandparents were Louis II Gagné and Marie Michel; his maternal grandparents were Jacques Dodier and Catherine Caron. He had two sisters named Marie-Louise and Geneviève.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Ignace, Pierre, Louis, François-Xavier, Raphaël, Françoise, Françoise and Barbe.
