Anna was born on July 3rd, 1903.  Anna's father was Joshua Laurance Francois Martens and her mother is Jacomina Alletta van Rooyen.  Her paternal grandparents were Jan (Tommie) Thomas Martens and Anna  Catharina Elizabeth Pretorius. She has two brothers named Johannes and Jozina.  She is the second oldest of the three children.
